HISTORY AND MEMBERS OF ANCIENT HOMELANDS
The name Ancient Homelands is a paradox or perhaps a contradiction of a catachresis of words. The use of a database powered by a modern computer server cannot be termed “ancient” nor can I have an actual “homeland” within Second Life, as real homelands only exist on earth not inside our computers. So “Ancient Homelands” as applied to Second Life is intended to draw the reader into a virtual theme that I have created. Ancient Homelands since January of 2008 in Second Life has resided on four different sims, with the 18,000 square meter gothic castle estate that used to exist on Saturnalia probably the most representative of something actually “ancient” looking. Nowadays Ancient Homelands seems to have found a long lasting home on the mainland sim of Hamnida. With a 90 meter by 40 meter, 1940’s looking brick textured store, and a large backyard to build and play in there is not much of an “ancient” appearance about this Ancient Homelands. However, Second Life is what you make of it, and I have decided that my place in this virtual world is my Ancient Homelands.
Ancient Aeon was born in Second Life on New Year’s Day 2008 because I was bored while on Christmas holiday and sitting at home that day I was browsing the web and stumbled across Second life. My name is kind of an accident. I did not really know what Second Life was, or how important names could be in this world, so when I registered with SL I was thinking of my eBay name of Ancient Icon that I have used for selling old religious figures. I put in Ancient and since that name was taken I put a 1 after it and thus Ancient1 came to be. Over the years I’ve owned sims, sold sims, had wonderful castles on 18,000 meter estates, built products, sold products, owned a lot rentals and sold a lot of rentals, made many an SL social mistake, run and hidden from monsters, rezzed a sim wide griefer prim (someone gave it to me when I was a noobie and I did not know what it was) that almost stopped my heart when I saw what I had done, made friends, lost friends and explored the grid. I build, I hang out and I enjoy SL, it’s my hobby.
Bot Core is registered with Second Life as a Scripted Agent. He is a bot owned by Ancient1 and is co-owner of the Ancient Homelands land group. Bot Core stands at the DJ podium playing music when there is not an actual DJ, and at the same time manages the CBS Hippo Rent Plug-in, the Ancient Homelands SL group joiner and the Ancient Homelands inter-sim relay system. He interacts with new property renters who have rented through the Hippo rental box and joins them to the Ancient Homelands land group as a renter and assigns them rez rights.
JR Mekanic is the official tester for all Ancient Homeland products. During and after the build of a new product he tests out the product, and buys from the vendor to make sure it all works as planned. When JR is not modeling clothes for Ancient Homelands vendor photos or testing new products, JR sometimes resides in his WALL-E avatar skin and can often be seen scurrying around one of the floors of the Ancient Homelands store or the building platform directly over Ancient Homelands.
The mascot of Ancient Homelands. Remo is usually in his Tiny Raven avatar body, although when he feels feisty he sometimes changes to his Tiny Eagle avatar body. Remo is the big traveler from Ancient Homelands, the avatar who explores Second Life the most. If you see Remo say "Caw" to him.
